Last year on Sunday 3rd February the Australian Christian Nation Association took the bold initiative to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the very first Christian Church Service on Australian soil (which coincidentally occurred on Sunday 3rd February 1788) which was attended by all the 1030 souls who came from Britain in the First Fleet to settle this land.
It was a truely wonderful time that was faithfully captured on film and is available on DVD and was respectfully reported on the ABC News that night.
This year we are continuing the tradition and will again be Commemorating the event in an outdoor service on the very site that the Rev Richard Johnson built the very first Church building which is now known as Richard Johnson Sq Hunter and Bligh St Sydney.
We gather to thank Almighty God for His faithful servants and to honour Rev Richard Johnson The Father of the Australian Christian Church. We have invited all heads of the Christian Denominations and the theme will be "Serving God, Serving Australians"
Since then other groups have decided to commemorate the event on the first Sunday of the month and calling it "Heritage Sunday". We support these moves and applaud them for doing so, however we feel that the actual date is critically important and should be recognized as such nationally. Therefore it is our intention to always hold this service on whatever day of the week it falls on. This year it is on a Monday 3rd February and will commence at 12 Noon.
We are honoured to announce to you that it will be opened by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO accompanied by Sir Nicolas Sherhadie.
Our Guest speakers Dr Graham McClelland of the Christian History Research (For fuller details see below and in the attachment) The interest in this event is growing as I talk to people of all ages and I see that now is the time to make a stand and be counted. Please tell all you know about it and for those in other States we are desiring that this day be known as Thanksgiving Day and families should gather with their friends and neighbours on Feb 3 for a BBQ or dinner, tell the story of Johnson and to pray and thank God for our Nation. Last year the tangible presence of God's Spirit of love and unity was felt and it is our belief that it should grow and intensify.
