On February 1st 2016, Campus Crusade for Christ Australia changed its name to Power to Change. This name change signifies an even greater commitment to seeing the Great Commission fulfilled in Australia and beyond.
Campus Crusade for Christ which was founded in 1967 by Bill and Vonette Bright in the USA. In Australia there has been ministry for 48 years. The organisation has been living up to the vision behind its name – to reach campuses for Christ. Today, it has a presence on more than 35 campuses around Australia. By God’s grace, this presence has even extended to beyond the campus, such as athletes, musicians, children, high schoolers and families.
“What became clear a few years ago was that we have outgrown our name,” said Dr Allan Gibson, National Director of Power to Change, “We were no longer just a ‘campus’ organisation and we found that people did not engage with us because of this presumption.”
Different ministries within the Campus Crusade for Christ Australia chose to set up their own names, identities and even cultures. But multiple names has meant people didn’t recognise the scope of influence. Multiple names even made working together to influence Australia and the world complex. A unifying name was needed. Hence, Power to Change.
God has done amazing things over the years through us as Lay Institute for Evangelism, Life Ministries, Student Life, Youth Ministries, Family Life, The Jesus Film, Josh McDowall ministries, Athletes in Action, Global Aid Network, Shift, Children of the World or Church Dynamics. The list goes on.
“We have received very positive feedback about our new name,” said Dr Gibson. “It points directly to the person who has the power to change people, communities and the world: Jesus Christ.”
